My point is that sometimes it was a good thing that he was down in the mix. Most of the complaints I have about Vince are the tones (which he didn't select, apparently) and mixes where he is way too loud and stepping on Jerry's solos. As for songs where he didn't contribute -- I didn't mind that so much.

My favorite Vince contributions are during shows where he's relatively restrained. The PITB from his first show is fantastic, and sounds very good. But he was spotty to be sure, and had the misfortune of taking a backseat to Hornsby for his first year. I'm not sure he ever really dug his way out of that hole.

here's a gig where Weir asks for "more Vince" on Cold rain and Snow. Around the 9 minute mark of the track. Like Bobby said to the fans at Oxford Plains when the wanted Mickey to sing, "you can have it if you want it."

I think this version of CR&S backs your point about Vinny and echoes my thoughts. he has about 5 different sounds on this one song. Straight piano, piano with bells, synth. He's all over the place

This one is an overall pretty good show for Vinny. Not like he does anything "WOW!", but nice accompaniment. I like him when he plays piano and organ, primarily.
